Fantastic location, lovely helpful friendly staff. Decor a little tired, in need of refreshing, but spotlessly clean. Reception very nice great suggestions to improve our stay. Breakfast across the square a great start to the day. Hope to revisit

I am halfway through my 4 night stay, and am having a fabulous time. The previous reviews are true, the hotel is tired. But who cares!? The location is absolutely fabulous, yet is still beaten by the wonderful people working here. Breakfast is indeed in a restaurant across the square, as other reviewers have mentioned. But it takes 2 minutes tops to get there...and is more special than any other hotel breakfast location I have ever seen. The staff there are absolutely wonderful too. In my humble opinion, the benefits of the location (hotel and breakfast) staff and breakfast definitely outweigh any dated decor. Book...you won't be disappointed!! Note to management, can I please have room 12 again when I come back...because I will!!

Really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The staff are fantastic, very friendly with great advice. The location of the hotel is amazing. I had room 12 that faced the main square. An amazing view and the sound proof windows worked perfectly. The room was good, not fantastic. Everything worked well and the bed was comfortable. The WiFi worked well. The hotel does need a bit of a freshening up, painting, new carpets in the foyer and stairs etc. The breakfast is nice, it's across the square at a lovely old Cafe with friendly staff. All in all a great stay.

Excellent value for money has to be the main impression. My room (no. 22) was sufficiently spacious, spotless, good bathroom and a jaw dropping full view of the most beautiful city square in the world, the Brussels Grand Place. Yet other nearby hotels charge easily twice as much and call themselves the ‘Something Grand Place Hotel’, when they are actually streets away. The service is pleasant. Only two drawbacks worth mentioning: the breakfast is served across the street (free, simple, fresh) and the room could do with some basic toiletries, like a comb, body lotion etc. All in all, I am happy to recommend this for the excellent location and excellent quality/price ratio.

This hotel is excellent, but it's possibly not for everyone, so read carefully. The bad: the hotel is a bit tired, and lacks the facilities of a bigger hotel: there are no communal areas, no bar, no room service, the lift is ancient, and there are weird things like the main light in the first room being incredibly dim, and in the second one, the heating was incredibly powerful with no way to adjust it (the radiator had had a thermostatic valve head fitted at some point, and it was missing). This wasn't a problem as it was the middle of winter, so chilly outside, and had it got too hot I could have just opened the window. If you want breakfast, you get a voucher to go to another restaurant (I didn't have a chance to try it, but by all accounts it's fine according to a colleague who tried it). I would frankly have been a bit disappointed if I'd stayed in the first room, which was at the back of the hotel and had a pretty grim view over some ducting. Having said that, the room was clen and comfortable, and quiet. And given the location, the value for money was pretty good. I asked if there was any availability of a Grand Place room available, and it turned out that they could move me to a Grand Place view after the first night of my 4 night stay. There was no fee to upgrade. (This wasn't in response to a complaint, since I was ok with the first room, given the good value for money it was). So, I moved to a Grand Place view room on the first floor. And wow. It would not surprise me if the view featured on a list of the top 10 best hotel views in the world. The Grand Place is wonderful. It's fascinating for people watching during the day, and at night the square is lit beautifully. There are full length, full width blackout curtains so the brightness was not a problem. Neither, surprisingly, was the noise. I was only on the 1st floor, but there was an extra set of modern (fully openable) double-glazed windows on the inside. Even though a fishmonger's van comes and parks outside the hotel under my window every day, I couldn't hear it all. The second room was nicer, but still a bit tired. It was diligently cleaned though, and the bed was comfy. It was pretty big, with ample room for sofa in front of an antique fireplace (the layout was a bit odd). Finally, the two guys running the hotel were absolutely lovely. They were both very friendly and helpful, and have good English. They also didn't laugh at my dreadful French (to be fair, that doesn't happen in Brussels like it does in Paris). So, the location of this hotel is amazing, as is the view if you have a Grand Place room. It's a bit old and tired, and lacks many of the ameneties of a posher hotel. If it were refurbed in a fancy boutique hotel, I'd expect to be paying around four times as much for a room with that view. Don't bother if can only get a room at the back of the hotel.
